Free jazz that’s earthy, loose, and totally unpredictable. Togashi on percussion weaving textures rather than just keeping time, Haden’s bass grounding things when he feels like it, and Don Cherry floating over the top with his pocket trumpet like he’s signalling from another planet. It’s chaotic, beautiful, and about as far from dinner party jazz as you can get. FFO: Ornette Coleman lost in Montparnasse, percussion that sounds like the kitchen sink, cosmic brass, and anyone who insists jazz should come with a warning label.
